Pieve di Corsignano
Pieve di Corsignano. the old church of the town of Corsignano... later renamed Pienza by the town's favoured son, Enea Piccolomini. Enea became Pope Pius II in 1458,, and decided that Corsignano was far to modest a town to be the birthplace of a Pope... so he set about rebuilding it in a manner more befitting his postion. The new duomo and other buildings in Pienza today are far more elaborate than would typical of a town of 2,200 inhabitants.
